Sámi teacher education contents and research needs
Sámi allaskuvla is about to start new Sámi teacher education master’s program in autumn 2017. Regulations relating to the framework plan for Sámi primary and lower secondary teacher education for years 1–7 and 5-10 are approved by the Norwegian education ministers. There are Sámi regulations now under work by the Norwegian Association of Higher Education Institutions (UHR), the cooperative body for Norwegian higher education. Institutional program plan and all the subject plans are ready. Program is based Indigenous peoples’ right to education self-determination. I am going to construct the implementation concerning the forthcoming Sámi teacher education master's level program from the point of view teaching contents and research perspectives. Presentation relies on the development and research project conducted in the Sámi teacher education funded by Norwegian Research Council. There is also an article jointly written with Dr. Mere Kēpa and Dr. Linitā Manu’atu: Indigenous peoples narrating Sámi, Māori and Tongan – Knowledges to actions in education and pedagogy.
